Date Jan 2018 – Present Signatory

As a cleaning company, Cityscape Trends has been given an opportunity and responsibility to protect and care for the environment. In addition, as signatories to UN Global compact, our values are guided by the seven Women’s Empowerment Principles. As an organization that is woman- owned we stand for principle 2, 5 and 7 to directly and indirectly empower and impact women in our industry. On Thursday, 21st June 2018 we took part in a forum put together by UN Women Kenya in collaboration with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers(KAM). The theme of the forum was: STEP AHEAD: Empowering Women in Industry. As Kenya adopts the Big 4 agenda women ought to be the centerpiece of this project. In as much as we say that the percentage of women in manufacturing is not as significant, that’s not true at all. We perceive manufacturing as big industries and imported machinery but in reality, manufacturing is that lady in her backyard putting together ingredients to come up with a hair product; that lady in her small art studio putting together ornaments from scratch. This is what manufacturing stands for. What we see is the final stage. Our key takeaways from this was that women have the power and the resources to dominate the manufacturing industry. As a man, be part of the ‘He for She’ movement and fellow women, hand hold and empower other women. Women ought to think BIG and not Bold; surround yourselves with the right team then finally position yourself strategically. Women in Manufacturing (WIM) and Women in Industry, our strategy should fall in line with the question what and/ or how should we as women benefit from the Big 4 agenda?
